Daniel Fast Day 1

 DAY 1

I set my alarm for 6:00 am, made myself some hot tea (non caffeinated, herbal) , and sat down at the kitchen table.

Our Devotion for the day was out of Psalm 1 and 2.  I love the Book of Psalms and since I am a singer/songwriter/and Worship Pastor, that just draws me to it even more.

We are supposed to focus on verses that stand out to us.  Well there were 2 for me. . .

The first was Psalm 1: 2-3 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law, he meditates day and night 3) He shall be like a tree, planted by the rivers (channels) of water that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf shall not wither and whatever he does shall prosper.

(wow!)  He that delights in the law of the lord and meditates on it shall be like a tree that bears fruit and whose leaf shall not wither and WHATEVER he does, shall PROSPER! What a wonderful verse that was.  I wrote that one down.

The second was Psalm 2:11 Serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling.  Kiss the son (embrace discipline) lest He be angry, and you perish in the way when His wrath is kindled but a little.  Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.

To me, to embrace discipline is a hard thing to do…but it says to “KISS THE SON” which means to embrace discipline.  Well I want to love the Lord with all my heart, so i am going to have to embrace discipline even when I don’t feel like it or want to. (yikes)  and I want to be blessed more than I already am, so I need to trust Him.  Why is it so hard to trust him?  I know deep down inside of me, I still have that 3 year old saying “I can do it all by myself.”   I know He wants me to let go and let Him do the things that only He can.  He does a much better job than I can anyway!

I then had some prayer time with the Lord asking to know Jesus more!  Important part of any conversation, especially with God, is to wait and listen.  Conversations go both ways.  It’s amazing to me what you will hear if you just listen.

It was a good FIRST morning . . .

I took a banana, a “Jazz” apple (new to me), some nuts, trail mix and a tea bag for hot tea.  All of this to eat for the day.

All the food that I had was great.  It wasn’t heavy on my stomach, and I couldn’t believe that I hadn’t had any caffeine or chocolate all day.  No headache!  Praise the Lord!   I did however get hungry about 3:00.  Even though I had spaced out my eating, and drank lots of water.  I drank more water and took time to pray.  That seemed to help.

I got home a little later and both me and my husband (Pastor Doug) were both looking at each other like “are you as hungry as I am?”  We made fried pototoes (olive oil) with paprika, scallions, and sea salt.  They were delicious.  I also had some corn with olive oil and sea salt.   The night before we had purchased some dry roasted peanut butter.  I had some of it with a little bit of honey.  Yes ma’am.  It hit the spot.

I managed to put the boys (5 and 2) in the bed and get in some lower body exercises.  Felt great!

To end the night, I decided I wanted to try a fruit smoothie in the blender.  Here are the ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cp frozen mixed berry blend,
  •  a medium banana,
  • juice from a lemon,
  • 2 cups of ice
  • 1-2 Tbs of honey

This really topped off the evening for me.  It really satisfied the sweet tooth with which I am blessed.  Overall, I was pretty pleased with the day.  I can’t wait to see what is going to happen tomorrow.
