     Daniel Fast Day 17

                                                             Humility

“And when they had come to the multitude, a man came to Him, kneeling down to Him and saying, ” ‘Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and suffers severely, for he often falls into the fire and often into the water.  So I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him. ‘ ”

This man knelt before Jesus in Humility and was persistent in the fact he knew to seek Jesus when there was a disappointment (the disciples) could not heal his son.  He went onto Jesus.

He didn’t take offense, in the temporary disappointment of the disciples not being able to help.  He sought after Jesus.  We need to humble ourselves before God, realizing our need of Him, submitting to His will, pursuing Him and being confident the outcome will occur in God’s perfect timing.

Be encouraged that approaching God with a heart of humility will always position us to find relief in Jesus.  We cannot be ashamed to humble ourselves before God, even in the presence of others.   Wow!  When are we going to finally be able to let go in worship.  To humble ourselves before Him.  To say  “God I don’t care what people see me do.  I don’t care if the person next to me doesn’t worship You… I am NOT going to miss this opportunity to engage with You;  To get closer.

When disappointments come and we may get offended, we have to continue in our pursuit of Jesus. Instead of calling Mom, or aunt Betsy, or Best Friend Laura, or Dad or the preacher or to whomever you run, RUN TO JESUS!

Ask Him to heal your heart, restore our trust in people.  Mend the hurts that others have caused. Run to the arms of Jesus.

Proverbs 2

2: 1-9 If you receive my words, and treasure my commands within you, so that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding;  Yes, if you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding.  If you seek her as silver and search for her (wisdom) as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.  For the Lord gives wisdom;

From His mouth come knowledge and understanding,;  He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly; He guards the paths of justice and preserves the way of His Saints.  Then you will understand righteousness and justice, Equity and every good path.

Wow, Wow, Wow!  How incredibly timely is this for me.  During this fast God has opened my eyes so clearly to understand!  Luckily He does it a little at a time because it would be otherwise overwhelming, but how much I have had my eyes opened to His word, His Truth.

The Verses have clarity like they never have before.  My life seems more in line with God than it has in a while.  There is a lot of truth to “You can always get closer to God.”  You really can.  You think you are close to HIM, then you get closer and look back… and say ” woah…I wasn’t nearly as close as I am now.”

The more He shows me, the more I want HIm to show me… The more in His presence I get, the more in His presence I want to be.

and you know what?                                               He always DELIVERS…. ALWAYS.

Humble ourselves, ask for forgiveness for things in our lives, seek Him… and you WILL  find Him.

I do. . . Every time I truly want to be in His presence.

Have a wonderful Day!

xoxo,

Brandi

Taking off the grave clothes

Devotional Verse:  Jesus said to them, ” Take off the grave clothes and let him go.”  John 11:4

Devotion:

When it comes to the transforming power of God working in someone’s life.  God often uses people to bring about diving life change.   Lazarus coming out of the tomb needed help with the grave clothes, He had been bound (hands and feet), the disciples removed all that so they had served a role to bring about change.

Talking to men for God is a great thing, but talking to God for men is greater still.”  E. M Bounds

” A Single groan before God may have more fullness of prayer in it than a fine oration of great length.”  Charles Spurgeon

I often think and now this devotion brings further examination of myself.  I think, am I really making a difference?  Am I really ABLE to make a difference?  I think…

“God you are the only one that can truly bring about change.  Have you ever had someone who tries to help you and really just gets in the way?  That’s the way I feel when I need to be helping God.  I feel like I will just make a mess of everything.  I think “How can I bring about diving change” in someone else’s life.  I mean, I sing, play and do my best to lead the congregation into the presence of God every week, but to get on the level of one on one and think that I could do anything to be effective in their lives blows my mind.

Maybe I just don’t realize I have done it.  I mean is there going to be an individual that comes up and says ” You have just been used to brin about diving life chang in me, and I thank you?”  NO!  They aren’t.  I am sure it will have to be observed by the fruit of their life.    God, I am willing.  Show me ways to truly impact other people.  Use me to enable You, Lord to do a great work.

Don’t you want the same?

Luke 12

WE have to speak about God!  We have to 8) confess me before men, him the Son of Man also will confess me before the angels of God.  But he who denies Me before men will be denied before the Angels of God. “

What will others think?  I am a radical?  What will I say? Verse 11 gives some help…. do not worry about how or what you should answer, or what you should say.  For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.”

What will they think of me?  4) Do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after theat have no more that they can do to you. . . Fear Him who after He has killed, has the power to cast into Hell.”

We need to be bold and confident with the tasks God gives us, because He will give us who we are to minister to,

When we are to do it and What we are to say

The Holy Spirit will Guide us.  All we have to do is be willing and listen!

The Spoken Word

“When He had said this, Jesus called out in a loud voice, ‘Lazarus, come out.’ ” John 11:43

Devotional:   Jesus was so in tune with the will of the Father that He already knew in His heart the miracle that was about to take place, but His words spoke the miracle into existence.

[There is power in our spoken words, whether they are used to build up or tear down]  It is so important to keep our hears filled with the truth from God’s word so that our words will produce good fruit.

“The Key to praying with power is to be come the kind of persons who do not use God for our ends but are utterly devoted to being used for His Ends.”  John Piper

LUKE 11

Our words have so much power and we NEVER really realize how much.  We really need only to speak positive things about or to people, if we are to think mean things we need to just literally bite our tongues.

Jesus says that persistence is very important.  The things we need are available to us.  God hears us and will avenge us or also supply our needs.  The Friend that comes at midnight looking for bread for a friend who showed up.  The friend was in bed and didn’t want to get them anything.  However, God says ” though he will not rise and give to him because, he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise and give him as many as he needs.”

go to cross reference….. Persistent Widow…She asks for Justice from a city Judge, with no regard to man or to God.  However (don’t you just love the “Buts”, and “Howevers”?)  Luke 18:4 “Though I do not fear God, nor regard man, yet because this widow troubles me.  I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.”  7) and shall God not avenge His own, who cry out day and night to Him?”

Persistence

Keep asking, Seeking, Knocking, 9) “ask and it will be given, to you; seek and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you.  11) If a son asks for bread from any father among you will he give him a stone?  13) if we being evil (sinful) know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him. ”

28) “Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it.”

Be the light shining ” No one hides a lamp, they put it out so everyone can see the light.  Our words and what we do are light or darkness to the world.  It is up to us to be the light to people who need it.  We need to make sure that what our eye is around is what is full of light and not darkness.

When the eye is full of light, having no part of dark, the whole body will be full of light as when the bright shining of a lamp gives you light.

Am I giving off a light of darkness? Or are we truly full of light?

Alignment with Heaven

“Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done in Earth as it is in Heaven”   Matt 6:10 KJV

To have heaven on Earth, We need to pray that His will, be unhindered in our own life.  God gives us the choice to surrender to it with trust and gladness.  We come into agreement with Him we will yield to the Lordship of Christ in all areas of our life.

Our prayers lay the track down on which “God’s power can come like a mighty locomotive, his power is irresistible, but it cannot reach us without rails.”

LUKE 10

We need to make sure that our heart is right in the motive that we seek God’s will.  We need to seek Him first.

God is beyond smart, He knows everything.  We should just get out-of-the-way and let Him lead us.  We should find comfort in the fact that God is in control.  If we, If I could just quit trying to “help” Him.  I mean, I need to be used.  Not just sit around and wait on God’s will to be done…but there’s a clear direction that God has for my life.  I need to seek HIM and what that will is for my life.

It’s glorious for everyone.  If you are breathing, you still have a purpose to fulfill.

I need to press into the voice of God everyday and say.  “God, what exactly do you wish for me today; How would you use me to help “Your kingdom come, and Your will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven?”

Lord, I ask that you open my spiritual eyes and ears to understand what you would have me do on a DAILY basis.  Not just worry about the big picture.

Let’s have a reality check… The “daily” things we do, are what Create the big picture.

Cultivating Spiritual Hunger

Devotional Verse: Immediately the Spirit drove Him into the wilderness and He was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan, and was with the wild bests; and the angels ministered to Him.  Mark 1:12-13

DEVOTION:  Jesus pulled away from the world to pray and fast.  he also pulled away from the demands of the crowds, His ministry and even His closest friends to pray.  WE need to pull away at times from more than just food.  Including television, movies, facebook, twitter, cell phones, and the internet.

These are avenues for mental and spiritual crowds to gather around us and drown out the Holy Spirit’s voice.

We nourish our souls as well as our bodies.  We do so through reading, talking, socializing playing and entertainment.  When our souls are full of those things, we often don’t hunger for God.  Jesus said that “being spiritually hungry is a blessed state, because there, we can be sure of being filled with the food that truly satisfies our deepest needs.”  Matt 5:6

Andrew Murray said ” Fasting helps to express, to deepen, and to confirm the resolution that we are ready to sacrifice ourselves, to attain what we seek for the kingdom of God…Prayer is reaching out after God and the unseen, fasting the letting go of all that is of the seen and temporal.”

Verses Psalm 6-7

So I read these verses and am wondering “Where does the correlation occur in the devotion?”   Then I re-read Psalm 6: verse 8-10 “For the Lord has heard the voice of my weeping.  the Lord has heard my supplication;  the Lord will receive my prayer.  Let all my enemies be ashamed and greatly troubled;  Let them turn back and be ashamed.”

When we go to God he hears us.  (Isn’t that amazing?)  I know I say that a lot, but there aren’t adequate adjectives in the English language to describe our God.

So in this time of fasting, when we separate ourselves from the world, and get by ourselves with God, and deeply desire to go deeper with Him, we cry out, and the Lord will “receive our prayers.”  Separate ourselves and get along and quiet with God.

I encourage you, as I am encouraging myself to get some time away from the world; To be by ourselves with God.

Prayer is a conversation with God.  Yes, it is a time to ask God for things, but it is time for us to press our lips together and open our spiritual ears to listen to what He would say to us.

Get away, get by yourself in the quiet and spend some time listening for the voice of God.

Brandi

Daniel Fast Day 12

Praying Boldly

Today was good.  I am starting to get tired of the lack of variety of food choices, but I mean, We have nearly completed 2 full weeks.  It’s been a journey this far.  I am pretty sure that this next and final week will be glorious, but I am preparing for a difficult week as far as final temptations.  I can do this.

I mean if Jesus made it 40 days w/o any food, I can make it 21 days just limiting my food.  I can do it.  I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13

Devotional Verse

“and it came to pass, at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near and said, ‘Lord God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel (Jacob was his name before God renamed him), let it be known this day that you are God in Israel and I am your servant. ‘ ”  1 Kings 18:36

Do you know we can come boldly to God and ask for things in Confidence?

Devotional—God has already settled the issue of our access to HIm but we can be assured our access is not because of our own righteousness, It’s because of what Jesus did on the cross.  When we pray we come to God in the authority of Jesus’ name, and we can be confident that we will find grace, mercy, and perfectly timed help.

Luke 9

Jesus sent the disciples out to heal and minister in the name of Jesus.  Jesus comes down from the mountain and is received by a man who has epileptic seizures.  The disciples could not cast out the demon.

Jesus is “disgruntled”  and says” O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with You… Then Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, healed the child and gave him back to his father.”

Jesus had faith, He commanded things to be so by the authority given from God.  We have the same authority, through Jesus ( as believers).  Faith as a Mustard seed, will move mountains.  We have to have the same Boldness that Jesus had.  He knew He was, He knows who HE IS!

When are we going to realize that we are the children of God.  Just like we love our own Children, God loves us even more… because we are HIS children.  WE can and should come before God as a child to a Father, with Confidence.  He accepts us through the righteousness of Christ.  He loves us.  He wants to provide for us.

He’s not waiting to shoot you down with how low and terrible you are.  He knew how sinful we were going to be.  The whole reason Jesus came to Earth.  He wants us to return home to Him.  His arms are open wide.

He says to us ” What are your burdens, give them to me…What are your needs, I will give it to you.”  He’s a good dad.

Go to Him Boldly.  Knowing He hears us.

Brandi

Day 11

TODAY WAS THE LUNCHEON….. CLICK HERE http://www.hark.com/clips/ntvffdnwzs-dum-da-dum-dum

I wondered as I walked up ” Who would I be sitting with?  Who was going to wonder, “What is this girl doing with salad dressing in her small zip lock baggy?   I enter the countryclub and find my seat.  I went ahead and poured my salad dressing on the salad.  To minimize the comments and questions about the fast.  It seemed to work.

Chickasaw Country Club was SOO accomodating. They brought me a baked potato with Olive Oil and Sea Salt.  AWESOME!!!

Every time I have been there, Their food has been fabulous!  It was very tempting to want the food on the buffet line, it smelled outstanding. I was strong.  This was a first luncheon to go to where I had to decline food in front of aquaintances or complete strangers.  It went well.

Today I got aggrivated with myself!

Two days in a row I have somehow incorrectly programmed my alarm on my phone!

I mention it because I have gotten up later than intended both days.  ARGH!!! So I have felt rushed with my set aside time for the devotional!  Anyway….

Today Daniel Fast Devotional discussed Prayer and the Process

Devotional Verse “Seven times Elijah told him to go and look finally the seventh time his servant told him ‘ I saw a little cloud, about the size of a man’s hand rising from the sea.’  Then Elijah shouted, ‘ Hurry to Ahab and tell him, ‘ Climb into your chariot and go back home.  If you don’t hurry, the rain will stop you! “ 1 Kings 18: 43-44

Isn’t it amazing how much faith Elijah had?   He knew God was going to answer his prayer and make it rain.  I pray that MY faith gets that strong.

Devotion- God does not want merely to answer our prayers;  He wants to spend time with us to prepare us for the answer that will come.

R.A. Torrey says.  the reason why many fail in battle is because they wait until the hour of the battle.  The reason why others succeed is because they have gained their victory on their knees long before the battle came.

Isn’t that the case sometimes?  We think we can handle it on our own, then we can get in a mess and use our 911 call.

We read out of Luke 8 for today’s devotional.

It was really good.  The thing that keeps coming out to me in this chapter and in the devotionals. … WE HAVE TO HAVE FAITH!!!  The ones that even had a little bit of it, received what they needed.  Jesus is just waiting to intervene for us.  We just have to ask for it, but WITH FAITH!  Why is it so hard for us to believe?

We believe him for our ETERNAL salvation.  But then, when we, when I, ask for something in my day to day life…. it becomes a game of “do I really believe” He can and will do it.   Why is that?

Well, I say during this fast.. NO MORE!!  No more will I believe that my God can do one thing and not the other things.   He can do all things.  He created the HEAVENS and the EARTH for crying out loud.  ( I am preaching to myself … can you tell?)

It’s amazing how I try to box our God in.  In my mind limit him… when I know deep down in my SPIRIT., that God is “able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we ask or think”…Ephesians 3:20

I have been determined to climb up this mountain to get to the next mountain top (level of relationship) with God.  I am right in the middle of it.

The closer I get to God, the closer I need to be…. I’m hungry… and not for food, but for more of God.

I believe that He will allow me to have it.  Don’t you?
